ANNOUNCEMENT -  PRIZE  HIGHEST EVER - £100.


This year the KerinsNaumov International translation prize was launched  on February 28th 2009 to students of the city of Perm, Russia, via the internet by Scottish Storyteller Michael Kerins.

The initial aim of the prize is, in the first instance, to encourage students, who study at the Perm Universities to widen their knowledge, understanding, use and practice of contemporary English.

The total prize fund for 2009 is £400.00 GBP in split lots

1 first prize joint for both compulsory texts -  i.e. £100 GBP for the winner

plus

1 first each compulsory texts £50

3 times £30 GBP

3 times £20 GBP

As well as these students' prizes there will also be a Special Teachers' Prize 2009 Kerinsnaumov.com prize will include a separate teacher's only prize of £50 GBP for the teacher who encourages the greatest number of students to participate in the competition.

If there is a tie between two or more teachers then the winner will be the one who has encouraged the greatest number of individual translations will be deemed the winner.

This will make the grand total of £450.00 GBP

This Prize fund has been made available from the sales of the book Mother Tongue, a compilation of translations of two poems written in English by Russian Poet and citizen of the city of Perm Nicolai Naumov, and compiled and expanded by Michael Kerins. Further support for the competition has been forthcoming via S.L.A.T.E. and many friends and supporters of Michael Kerins’ work in Russia, including Ian Ferguson and Christine Nelson

Around 12 texts will be posted on this site on Feb. 28th. Students are encouraged to continue to visit the site as not all texts will be available at the same time. The texts will be in contemporary English, cover matters of Public/Sexual health, Politics and Economics. As well as a few random pieces of contemporary Scottish writing, some texts from the USA and  as well as a piece from South Africa by his Excellency Mr Justice Edwin Cameron of the Supreme Court of Appeal Bloemfontein South Africa. Native English speakers who live and work in non English speaking countries have also agreed to donate some texts. BBC correspondents Caroline Wyatt and Quentin Somerville will also contribute.

There will also be an excerpt of one of Michael's written pieces, THE SEAGULL AND THE CROW,  It is a new piece written and conceived at Illinski north of Perm city in September 2008. THE SEAGULL AND THE CROW  has been very well received by a wide variety of audiences.
Students should translate four of these twelve or so texts into Russian, and a panel of native Russian speakers will judge the subsequent texts. They should be translated into written contemporary Russian. The panel of judges can be identified via the site.

To qualify for entry, students must be registered with the Faculty of Modern Languages and study English at any level, any year group and by any method for example but not exclusively

Therefore in total 4 scripts must be translated

for the first year the entries will now appear on the internet.
The judges will then receive your texts anonymously via email.
Judges’ families are now eligible to enter the competition.

Международный конкурс переводчиков Керинз Наумов был организован через интернет шотландским рассказчиком историй Майклом Керинзом в феврале 2003 в России в городе Перми. Конкурс создан для студентов пермских вузов и, в первую очередь, направлен на развитие их знания, понимания и использования современного английского языка.

Призовой фонд 2009 года составляет 500 фунтов стерлингов:

- 6 первых призов по 50 фунтов;

- 2 вторых приза по 30 фунтов;

- 2 третьих приза по 20 фунтов.

Помимо этого будет учрежден Специальный Приз для преподавателей 2009 в размере 50 фунтов для учителя, который привлечёт наибольше количество студентов к участию в конкурсе. Если между двумя или более учителями счёт будет равным, то победителем будет признан тот, кто привлек больше студентов, выполнивших индивидуальный перевод.

Призовой фонд был создан за счёт прибыли с продаж книги «Родной язык»
(«Mother Tongue») – собрания переводов двух стихотворений, написанных на английском Российским поэтом Николаем Наумовым, составленных и дополненных Майклом Керинзом.

Каждый год в конце февраля на сайте публикуют около 12 текстов. Это тексты на современном английском языке, затрагивающие проблемы общественного здоровья, половой культуры, политики и экономики.
Помимо нескольких текстов шотландских авторов будут представлены тексты авторов из США, Канады, Южной Африки и некоторых не-англоговорящих стран. Также будет отрывок одного из произведений Майкла.

Студентам нужно перевести 4 из 12 текстов на современный литературный русский язык, которые проверит и оценит российское жюри.

Принять участие могут студенты факультета иностранных языков любой формы обучения:

• Очная дневная

• Заочная

• Вечерняя

• Дистанционная

После того, как вы выбрали 4 текста, переведите их на русский язык и отправьте на этот сайт.

Помимо этого, необходимо выбрать еще 2 текста. В общей сложности, у Вас должно быть переведено 4 текста. После этого судьи получат их анонимно по электронной почте, благодаря чему родственники судей впервые могут принимать участие в конкурсе.
