WORLD METRO MAPLAS Господину С. Есину Dear Sirs We are currently writing and preparing a new hardback full colour book, which we believe to be the first of its kind, which will compare the maps of various Metro and Subway systems around the world. The book is being researched with the assistance of staff at London’s Transport Museum, Covent Garden (Mike Ashworth) and it will be published by Capital Transport Ltd of London (Jim Whiting). We have enclosed some preliminary sample pages in low quality print, for your perusal. The purpose of the book will be to show the fascinating diversity of the world’s leading systems and the way they have chosen to represent the complexity or simplicity of their urban transport networks in map or diagrammatic form. As part of this publication we would very much appreciate the opportunity of including the St Petersburg map alongside the world’s other most recognised metro maps. We are also keen to include historical maps if possible, available or relevant. Therefore we are seeking permission from you to print this map in the book. Owing to the rather specialised subject matter, and consequent small print run (anticipated at around 5000), we are not expecting this book to be a best-seller or hugely profitable publication. We would therefore be grateful if you could waive or minimise any usual commercial reproduction fees with respect to this publication. If permission is granted we would require a print quality version of the map or diagram. Do you have the facility to supply such copy in either CDROM or transparency format? We would obviously be happy to reimburse the costs of transferring the data to such a format. If you are able to assist us with this publication we would also be interested to receive any additional information which you would like us to consider for inclusion. These could include other items of ephemeral interest, such as early versions of the map, logos or examples of your organisation’s publicity. We look forward to a favourable reply to our request.
Yours sincerely Mark Ovenden, author Back to Texts
